4-year-old boy was killed in a furniture accident in Hong Kong

The Chief Criminal Inspector of the Western District of Hong Kong, Wu Jijun, said that at 7:26 on the 6th, the police received a report that a woman was calling for help downstairs in a residential building on West Side Street in Western District.

After the police arrived, a 24-year-old woman named Zhuo was holding a 4-year-old boy named Li. The boy had lost consciousness and had no breathing or pulse. The police officer on the spot immediately gave him first aid and summoned an ambulance to the scene. The ambulance then sent the boy to Queen Mary Hospital for rescue, but the boy was unfortunately certified dead at 8:28.

When the investigation occurred, the boy's mother was tidying up the room, and the boy was playing alone in the living room. During this period, he accidentally clamped his head to the V-shaped position of the legs of the folding table , after which the legs pinched the boy's neck, causing him to suffocate and die.

It is understood that families who had accidents moved from the Mainland to Hong Kong. The boy is currently a resident of the Mainland.

At 9 a.m. yesterday, about 6 relatives of 6 boys went to the public mortuary in Xihuan to go through the autopsy procedure. Among them, the mother of the deceased cried into tears. She took the doll toy that her son loved during her lifetime and went to the mortuary with the help of her husband.

Who would have thought that the furniture at home would just kill the child. However, such an accident is not alone.

On the 7th, Swedish furniture retailer IKEA reached a settlement on Monday, agreeing to pay 46 million US dollars (about 320 million yuan) to the parents of a boy who was crushed to death by a drawer cabinet he produced 3 years ago.

The reason why IKEA wants to make compensation is that in May 2017, a two-year-old boy was crushed to death at home by an overturned MALM series drawer.

Simulation of child accidents caused by IKEA problem drawer

The parents brought IKEA to court the following year, accusing the company of knowing that the drawer was in danger of tipping over but not reminding consumers to fix it on the wall. So parents who have children at home must pay attention and look at your furniture. Is there a security risk?

Parents look carefully!

1. Children's furniture products must not have dangerous sharp edges and tips, and the outer corners below 1600mm above the ground can touch the outer corners. The corners and edges need to be rounded or chamfered, and the rounded radius is not less than 10mm, or the rounded arc length Not less than 15mm. If there are dangerous protrusions, you need to add a protective cap or cover to protect it.

2. The furniture of wooden parts needs to check the formaldehyde emission. The formaldehyde emission of various artificial boards must reach E1 level before they can be used indoors.

3. In the "General Technical Conditions for Children's Furniture", the cabinet-type closed furniture required for children should have a certain ventilation function. At present, the cabinets of most children's furniture on the market can see holes left on the back panel of the cabinet to prevent children from suffocating in the cabinet.

Look for two certifications when buying furniture. ISO9000 quality management system certification, ISO140000 environmental management system certification.
