The purpose of this Transmedics device is to improve the way organs are preserved during transport, which delivers warm, nutrient-rich blood to organs.

Transmedics has three OCS products - OCS Heart, OCS Lung and OCS Liver - each with three main components: a portable console with a wireless monitor, a disposable infusion device and a nutritious solution. The transparent housing of the infusion device protected the organ with Makrolon 2458 and Makrolon Rx 1452 polycarbonate, while the attached connector used Makrolon Rx 1805 polycarbonate.

John Sullivan, vice president of engineering at Transmedics, said: "Makrolon polycarbonate provides the combination of transparency and toughness required for this medical device."

Medical Makrolon polycarbonate has several features designed for the OCS platform, including:

●Dimensional stability

● Impact and chemical resistance

● Suitable for disinfection

● Biocompatibility in accordance with many ISO10993-1 test requirements

Makrolon 2458 polycarbonate and Makrolon polycarbonate have low viscosity and easy release properties.

Lauren Zetts, US manager of the Covestro polycarbonate healthcare market, said: "Safely transporting organs actually means the difference between life and death. I am very pleased that our materials have played a role in helping TransMedics complete the task of providing healthy transplants in a timely manner."

Covestro will also showcase its medical applications and materials at MD & MWest in Anaheim, California, from February 5th to 7th.

High Frequency Ranging Sensor Module

A high frequency ranging sensor module is a device that uses high-frequency signals to measure the distance between the sensor and an object. It typically consists of a transmitter and a receiver, which emit and receive high-frequency signals, respectively.
The module works by sending out a high-frequency signal, such as ultrasonic or radar waves, and measuring the time it takes for the signal to bounce back after hitting an object. By calculating the time of flight, the module can determine the distance between the sensor and the object.
High-frequency ranging sensor modules are commonly used in various applications, such as robotics, industrial automation, and automotive systems. They provide accurate distance measurements and can be used for obstacle detection, object tracking, or proximity sensing.
