A Norwegian shipping company has chosen Ecospeed to provide the final protective coating for its two new bulk carriers. Both ships are the highest ice class vessels and will sail in northern Europe and the Baltic Sea. The first "M/VGolfstraum" was delivered in November this year, and the sister ship "M/VRystraum" is expected to be delivered in 2012.
Since the northern part of the Baltic Sea is almost completely frozen in winter, the owner hopes that the coating of the underwater hull will protect the hull from large floating dry ice, and Ecospeed is the ideal choice.
It is reported that in the past five years, several ships with Ecospeed coating have sailed in the harshest Baltic Sea in winter, and no one ship needs to be coated when it enters the dry dock. The icebreaker "Oden" with the Ecospeed coating and the "Ernest Shackleton" research vessel four years ago are the best proof. The "Oden" has sailed to the North Pole and the South Pole, and the "Ernest Shackleton" remains intact after two seasons of 2.5 m thick ice.
