Strandberg type polyoxometalate with novel structure
Polyoxometalates (POMs) are a kind of metal oxygen cluster heteropoly compounds with unique structure and abundant physicochemical properties. The compounds are widely used in catalysis, drug carriers, photoelectromagnetic functional materials and so on. Due to the existence of metal ions in the structure and its interaction with the bridging group and the end group ligands, there are many kinds of compounds of this type and the structure is variable.
The Optoelectronic Functional Materials team led by Pan Shilie, a researcher at the Xinjiang Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, obtained a molybdenum phosphate with a special structure during the study of metal phosphates. The structural motif of this compound is a Strandberg-type polymetallate anion, which forms a one-dimensional long chain by the common bridge oxygen, and then forms a three-dimensional crystal structure by cation bonding. For common polymetalates, the polymetallate anions are mostly linked by metal ions or organic-inorganic ligands. What was discovered this time was the first example of a novel compound with a direct association of polymetallate anions. The preliminary study of its physicochemical properties found that the compound does not have a symmetric center, and the powder double frequency experiment result is about 2 times KDP, which can realize phase matching and has potential application prospects in nonlinear optical functional materials.
The research results have been published online in the international magazine Chem. Commun. This research work has been funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences' “Favorable Talents for the Introduction of Foreign Talents†and the Key Projects of the Knowledge Innovation Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
