Japan Railway Research Institute, KUBOTEK, Furukawa Electric Industries, MIRAPRO, and Yamanashi have built facilities for conducting empirical tests on power storage systems using superconducting flywheels weighing 4 tons. At the time of the test, it is planned to implement the flywheel power storage system and the photovoltaic power station and power grid operated by Yamanashi.
This empirical test was implemented under the project of “Safety and Low-cost Large-Scale Energy Storage System Technology Development†of Japan's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Agency. Yamanashi Prefecture is promoting the introduction of renewable energy in order to realize the “energy, energy, and land consumptionâ€. This time, it will use a superconducting flywheel storage system with a weight of 4 tons in the “Mikurayama Large Photovoltaic Development Station†in the prefecture. (Refer to this site's report) In combination with a photovoltaic power generation system, start a grid test. The empirical test plan is completed by the end of 2015.
During the test, the power of the flywheel power storage system will be used to adjust the amount of photovoltaic power generated by changes in natural conditions, such as the amount of sunlight, and deliver it to the grid. By the way, for the sake of this empirical test, Yamanashi has built a 10,000 kW "Mikurayama Photovoltaic Power Plant" together with Tokyo Electric Power and a new 1002.6 kW "Mikurayama Experimental Test Photovoltaic Power Plant". .
