The number of large-scale mines in China increased by 40% in 5 years

Wang Min, deputy director of the Ministry of Land and Resources, said today that since 2005, Chinaâ€™s large-scale mines have increased from 3,331 to 4,684, with a net increase of 40.6%. Large-scale mining groups have been the mainstay, and the mineral development pattern for the coordinated development of small and medium-sized mines has taken shape. Up to now, the country has completed the integration of 6,574 mining areas such as iron, copper, and aluminum, and involved 58,809 mining rights, accounting for 40% of the total mining rights in the country. The mining rights in the integrated mining areas have decreased by 44%.

It is understood that the number of mines in China has decreased from 127,000 in 2005 to 113,000 in 2010. While the total number of mines has dropped sharply, in 2010, the production of solid mines nationwide reached 9 billion tons, an increase of 3.8 billion tons compared with 2005. Among them, the total number of coal mines in the country decreased from 18,000 in 2005 to 13,000 in 2010, and the production of raw coal increased from 2.24 billion tons to 3.24 billion tons.
