“The core technology for preparing jet fuel using castor oil as raw material lies in the catalyst.†Li Wei said that “hydrogenation of castor oil†was achieved through appropriate catalytic reaction technology, thereby preparing highly selective bio-aviation kerosene.
Li Wei said that the world’s air transportation oils are processed and purified by using oil as raw material. A large aircraft takes off and lands the equivalent of 600 double-class taxis a day, seriously affecting the air quality. Biofuels can reduce sulfur and carbon emissions by more than 50%. However, the fact that raw materials are sourced from a small source and the cost of production are high constrains the development of new energy jet fuel. "The use of castor oil as a raw material can effectively solve these two problems. Ramie cultivation can also effectively use the saline-alkali land that is not suitable for the growth of food crops. It has high yield and low cost and is more suitable for China's national conditions."
After many years of research, the team of Nankai University successfully developed a suitable catalyst, and its "catalyst for preparing aviation kerosene from castor oil and its preparation method" has applied for China's invention patent, which is of great significance for aviation emission reduction, haze control, and climate change response. .
